Lonavala Drive

Mid May 2009 !!

It may be a pretty bad time to hit the roads for a drive to Lonavala… but again me along with my friends are complete maniacs when it comes to making plans for a trip…

After a sumptuous lunch I and my friends were lazing around talking about the hot Pune weather, when suddenly Jashoswi came up with this idea of the drive. Initially we all were a bit unsure whether to buy into his suggestion… but finally we gave our thumbs up !!!

So off we were… We started from Viman Nagar in Pune and followed the road to Khadki and then followed the NH4 towards Mumbai. Soon the Pune-Mumbai expressway started. The road is really well maintained. The speed limit is 80 kmph, though I think very few on the expressway actually follow it !!  🙂  🙂

The drive is very scenic… we crossed some tunnels on the way…

After about an hour of high-speed extravaganza in our small lil’ car, we took the diversion from the expressway and drove towards Lonavala. From the diversion it’s about 14kms. We passed the small township of Lonavala and climbed up towards ‘Bhusi’ Dam. Well in our good old bengali, ‘Bushi may well mean for us worthless thing, but the scenic beauty of the dam was surely not. Lonavala is supposed to be visited in the monsoon season in order to enjoy its real beauty, but we were blessed with the hot sun and dry hills to be enjoyed !!!! The dam complex was pleasant with the nice breeze. Pretty romantic, but not ideal scenario, may be, for a gang of boyz like us with one gal !!!

Afterwards we moved towards the ‘Lions point’, the view point of Lonavala. Well, to put it in short, the view is just amazing. Our luck favored us. The sunny and hot weather suddenly changed to a breezy, cool and cloudy one. The experience afterward was just ….. Heaven !!!

To be continued !!

  1. Anupam,

Two little suggestion (hope you don’t mind my poking):
    1. Better to post in non-italized format, if you want to highlight any word then make it bold/ italised, else its better to keep the writing in regular font.
    2. Add some images to the posts, it gives a better impression.

Loved your post. Keep up the good work. Yo!
