Easter Weekend .. Day at Greenwich..

The dull skies… The rains.. The snow…  The much awaited weekend of the Easter Holiday…

The religious importance of Easter is perhaps well known to all, but for people like me , it only means days when you sleep well with the office calls and blackberry’s troubling you less. Paying due respect to unexpectedly weird weather of London, cursing my level best to gale speed like chilly winds,  had made up my mind to keep myself busy in cleaning the house, I mean my room. Cleaning the house is well too much out of my current ability.. As the day progressed, the plans of cleaning gradually started taking a back seat and the sudden urge to go out became more and more pre-dominant… and thus the plan to make a short visit to the university town of Greenwich.

The very thought of boarding the DLR unknowingly fills me with childish happiness.. I would run to take the front seat and feel the fun of this unmanned train.. have a strangely nice feeling in boarding this roller-coaster like thingy. Sometimes hilly, sometimes breaking, sometimes speeding…

and then stopping at Cutty Sark. Thats the stop acting as the gateway to the cute ‘n’ lovely place of Greenwich. You come out of the station and take a left, which brings you to the ‘College Approach’ which leads to the Royal Naval College. The college is a deemed as a architectural masterpiece of Maritime Greenwich, classified as a World Heritage Site. The plush lawns, imposing building, the pillared corridors; not sure of the heritage feel, but surely made me feel like NarayanShankar will emerge from some where and break the silence with the thundering voice ( ref : Bollywood movie ‘Mohabbatein’, and accepting the fact, am a little filmy )

The lawns…

I have been at Greenwich earlier, thus was pretty aware of the usual explore points. but there I was, completely oblivious of the Greenwich market. Its energy pack in itself, with vibrant shops selling french cutlery to danish pastries to Nepalese jackets and wonderfully roasted beef shanks. The colors.. the smell.. the energy… is surely going to make a mark in every person’s mind. Some snaps … my amateur attempt to frame the ‘life’ of the market place…

To add to the surprises, found a coffee shop having a ‘activity’ theme… kept the coffee lover’s busy with mug painting, bag making and other creative things… and the shop was decorated with all such hand-made small but cute things.. they all seemed to add a personal feel to the coffee shop… loved the idea and its implementation….

The return journey brought me to the banks of the Thames, well the de-tour was planned and done purposefully. The evening lights and Southwark bridge multiplied the charm of the river even more…

The day came to an end… but this gave me the very need break from monotony and my ever so needed to urge to attempt to express in word…

And, I finally write this post… anupamwrites wakes up after years long nap…

Cheers !
